Volleyball: Bucs Lose is Straight Sets to Rams

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- Maritime traveled to Framingham State on Wednesday evening for a mid-week MASCAC match with the Rams. The Bucs played well against a touch Framingham squad losing the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores. Framingham pulled off the win in set three to sweep the Buccaneers in straight sets.

The Basics

Final: Rams 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-7)

Records: Framingham 10-4 (2-0)

               Maritime 2-8 (0-3)

On The Court

For The Bucs

  • Alexa Smith led all Bucs offensively with six kills. Marlo Stark and Chloe Johnson each had five kills in the loss. 
  • Keira Whalen recorded a match-high 18 assists on the night. 
  • Defensively, Whalen led the Buccaneers and the match in digs with 14. Isabelle Miazga recorded 12 and Stark had 11.
  • The Bucs posted a positive hitting percentage at .061, led by Audrey Manning at .333.

For The Rams

  • Hailey Sanders led all players with 12 kills. Anna Szymanski recorded 11 of her own in the win.
  • Stella Bailey had 13 assists to lead the Rams. Isabel Henwood recorded 11.
  • Carly Beaulieu and Szymanski each had 13 digs defensively to lead FSU.
  • The Rams posted a .290 hitting percentage with multiple players over .400.

 

How It Happened

 

Framingham led the way in each of the three sets but the Bucs didn't go down without a valiant fight. When the Rams took an eight-point, 13-5 lead in the first set, the Bucs closed the deficit to one, 15-14, midway through the game. The Rams went on a 10-5 run to close out the first game and win 25-19. 

The second set was nearly a carbon copy of the first set with Framingham going up 13-7, a lead the Bucs closed down to three at 15-12. Maritime pushed but couldn't get past the Rams attack as they lost set two, 25-19.

In the third set, The Rams went out to a quick 6-0 lead. Maritime scored three in the midst of a 15-3 run for the hosts. They proceeded to go on a second big run, 10-4, to win the set, 25-7, and the match, 3-0.

What's Next

The Bucs are in Henniker, N.H. on saturday for a non-conference tri-match with NECC opponents New England College and Lesley University.
