Doucette Nets Five Goals, Harris Makes 14 Saves As Women's Lacrosse Drops MASCAC Decision To Salem State

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Kristina Ventura (Billerica, Mass.) netted six goals, while fellow junior Kelsey Russell (Arlington, Mass.) added five goals and three assists for eight points to lead Salem State to an 18-8 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Vikings (3-7, 2-1 MASCAC) jumped out to a pair of three-goal advantages in the opening 15 minutes of action before the host Buccaneers (3-5, 0-2 MASCAC) closed back to within one at 7-6 on senior Hillary Doucette’s (Manchester, Mass.) free position conversion with 4:31 to play in the half.  Ventura extended Salem State’s lead to 8-6 at the break, and after the teams traded goals in the first 5:09 after intermission, the visitors took control of the contest with eight unanswered tallies, including four straight by Russell, to ice their triumph.

 

Sophomore Erin Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) added a pair of goals and two assists in the win for the Vikings, who also received two tallies and a helper from sophomore Kristina Conlon (Dracut, Mass.).  Junior Kristen Caso (Framingham, Mass.) netted two markers on the day for Salem State, which also received an assist from senior Alexandra Smith (Norwell, Mass.).  Doucette notched five goals in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and helper from sophomore Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) on the afternoon.  Freshmen Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) also scored for the Buccaneers, who also received two assists off the stick of freshman Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).

 

Freshman Chyenne Jackson (Peabody, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a 13-save effort for Salem State, while freshman Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.) made 14 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Vikings outshot the Buccaneers by a 39-24 margin for the match.

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Fitchburg, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Salem State heads to Henniker, N.H. on Monday afternoon to square off with New England College in a non-league match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
