Solari Nets Pair Of Goals, Breault Makes 10 Saves As Women's Lacrosse Drops 7-5 MASCAC Decision At Framingham State

MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Maple Street Field, Framingham, Mass.

FINAL:                   FRAMINGHAM STATE 7, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 5

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Freshman Amy Rotger (Revere, Mass.) netted a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner with just over 18 minutes remaining, to lead Framingham State to a 7-5 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Rams (2-3, 1-0 MASCAC) netted a pair of markers in a 54 second span early in the opening half to take a 2-0 edge, but tallies by freshman Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.), the latter which came with seven seconds to play before intermission, enabled the visiting Buccaneers (0-3, 0-1 MASCAC) to even matters at the break.  Goals by Rotger and freshman Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) in a 1:01 span gave Framingham State a 4-2 advantage with just under 23 minutes remaining, but Solari’s second of the day 2-0 seconds later sliced Massachusetts Maritime’s deficit back to one.  Rotger and freshman Jessica Graham (Woburn, Mass.) both struck for scores in a 55 second span to restore the hosts’ two-goal lead at 6-3, but the visitors used markers from sophomore Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) and senior Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) to close back to within one once again at 6-5 with 12:59 to play.  That would prove to be as close as the Buccaneers would come, however, as senior Amanda Geary’s (Marlboro, Mass.) goal 49 seconds later iced the Rams’ triumph, with neither team scoring in the final 12-plus minutes of action.

Graham joined Rotger with two tallies in the win for Framingham State, which also received a marker from senior Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) as well as assists off the sticks of freshmen Lindsay Albert (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Brianna Alimonti (Revere, Mass.) and Katelyn Belcher (Plymouth, Mass.).  Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the victory in goal for the Rams with a 10-save effort, while sophomore Jenna Breault (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) also made 10 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime, which received an assist from freshman Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.).  Framingham State held a 24-23 edge in shots for the day over the Buccaneers, who claimed a 9-4 advantage in draw controls for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m., while Framingham State heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on MIT in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
