Smith Nets Seven Goals And Career High Nine Points As Women's Lacrosse Notches 26-10 Victory Over Mitchell

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) netted seven goals and a pair of assists for a career-high nine points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 26-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Mitchell Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The host Buccaneers (2-4) build a seven-goal first half advantage before settling for a 14-9 edge at the break, and Massachusetts Maritime notched 11 unanswered tallies in the opening 23-plus minutes after intermission to set a program record for goals in a match.  Senior Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) added six goals and an assist for seven points on the day for the winners, who also received four markers and a pair of helpers from freshman Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.).  Sophomore Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) and freshman Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals and two assists for four points for the Buccaneers, who also received two tallies each from freshman Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) and Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Freshman Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) also scored for Massachusetts Maritime, which received two assists from senior Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.).

 

Freshman Ashley Murtha (South Windsor, Conn.) netted six goals in the setback for the visiting Mariners (1-5), who also received single tallies off the sticks of junior Alexandra Charles (Massapequa, N.Y.), sophomore Alexandra Mahar (Watertown, Conn.) and freshmen Amanda Rowan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Jenna Rodriguez (Basking Ridge, N.J.).  Sophomore Jenna Breault (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Buccaneers with a five-save effort, while junior Anysia Lombardo (South Windsor, Conn.) made six stops in net for Mitchell as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Mariners by a 38-15 margin while holding a 23-13 advantage in draw controls for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Chicopee, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Elms in a non-league outing that begins at 8:00 p.m., while Mitchell will be idle until Saturday, April 19th when the Mariners travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on Sage in a non-league match that begins at 2:00 p.m.
