Doucette Becomes Program's Scoring Leader, Smith Makes Nine Saves As Women's Lacrosse Falls At Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Freshman Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) netted four goals and an assist for five points to lead Bridgewater State to a 20-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Swenson Field.

 

The host Bears (10-5, 4-0 MASCAC) jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the break and scored the first 15 goals en route to their second straight triumph, as senior Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) added hat tricks and an assist for Bridgewater State, which also received a marker and five assists from junior Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.).  Freshmen Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) and Taylor Brown (Commack, N.Y.) each tallied twice for the winners, who also received a goal and two helpers from senior Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.).  Junior Katharine Trahan (Burlington, Mass.), along with freshmen Makaila Lombardy (Attleboro, Mass.), Gaelin Reall (Providence, R.I.) and Abbie Putsis (Andover, Mass.) collected single markers for the Bears, who also received three assists off the stick of freshman Alex King (Weymouth, Mass.).

 

Senior Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) became the all-time leading scorer for the visiting Buccaneers (3-8, 0-5 MASCAC) with her 29th goal of the season and 58th of her career, as she has netted 61 points in 25 career matches for the third-year varsity program.  Sophomore Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Bridgewater State with three first half saves, while freshman Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) made one second half stop for the hosts.  Sophomore Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) made nine saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 31-10 margin.

 

Both teams will host Westfield State in their next respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference contests, as Massachusetts Maritime hosts the Owls in its season finale on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State entertains Westfield State tomorrow evening at Swenson Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
