Track & Field Finishes Second at Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass -- The Buccaneers track & field teams competed in a rare Thursday afternoon meet at Regis College. In a meet the teams perform well in annually, Maritime won a number of events and finished second overall.

On the women's side, Alyssa Grieco finished sixth in multiple events. In the 400 meter dash she finished with a time of 1:04.34, and the long jump with a final jump of 14'1.25". Marchella Corolla picked up a top-five finish in the 5000 meter run at 29:14.18. Sydney Sawyer finished sixth in the javelin with a best throw of 84'3".

On the men's side, Anthony Childs won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.46 seconds, the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.29 seconds and was a part of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished first with Demetri BoozerZach Cochran, and Sean Gibson with a time of 3:48.79. Tommy Hayes won the men's 500 meter run with a time of 18:06.53. The Bucs swept the top three spots in the event with Lukas Janulaitis finishing second and Brady Fontana finishing third. Max Pigott finished fourth over all in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:53.30, Ryan Prendergast finished third in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:55.76, and the Bucs 4x100 meter relay team of Boozer, Childs, Gibson and Jason Soares finished second with a time of 45.14 seconds. 

In the men's shot put, Joshua Rousseau picked up a second place finish with a best throw of 39'7". Luke Dawson finished fourth in the same event with a toss of 38'0.25". Two other Bucs, Liam Higgins and Jordan Escabi finished sixth and eighth respectively in the event. Rousseasu also won the discus with a throw of 44.51 meters, and the hammer with a throw of 47.64 meters. Higgins finished second and Tyler Fountain finished third in the javelin.

The Buccaneers are back at it on Saturday at Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Invitational.
