Thomas Earns Spot On 2016 MASCAC Softball All-Conference Team At Utility Position

Massachusetts Maritime sophomore Carli Thomas was named to the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball all-conference team that was announced by the league office earlier today, as the versatile performer earned second-team all-league accolades at the utility position in a vote of the conference’s coaches.

Thomas, a native of Brewster, Mass. and a graduate of Nauset Regional High School, led the Buccaneers at the plate with a .415 batting average that included three doubles, three homers and 15 RBI, as she also recorded a .515 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage.  She ranked second in the league in on-base percentage and seventh in both batting average and slugging percentage, and along the way Carli recorded five pitching victories and 100 strikeouts while also seeing time at shortstop, catcher and in the outfield.  Thomas posted seven multi-hit games during the spring and drove in a season-high five runs in a 10-4 victory over Wheelock on April 21st.

Massachusetts Maritime notched its highest single-season win total in a decade under the guidance of fourth-year Head Coach Megan Giammalvo this season, as she has mentored a pair of all-conference honorees in each of the last two campaigns.
