Five Buccaneers Recognized On Spring 2016 MASCAC Sportsmanship Team, Giammalvo Earns Second Straight Softball Sportsmanship Coach Of Year Accolade

Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Five Massachusetts Maritime student-athletes, along with a member of the Buccaneer coaching staff, were recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship with selection to the Spring 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Spring Sportsmanship team that was released by the league office earlier today.

The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team recognized student-athletes and coaches who display outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field.  As an important piece of the MASCAC and NCAA philosophy, the representatives on the team display what it means to have good sportsmanship in the MASCAC.

Seniors Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North), Brittany Driscoll (Spencer, Mass./Holy Name), Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Peter Schultz (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) were the respective Buccaneer honorees in baseball, softball, women’s lacrosse and men’s outdoor track & field, while junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass./Norton) represented the Massachusetts Maritime women’s outdoor track & field squad.  A total of 34 student-athletes from all eight conference institutions were honored with selection to the Spring 2016 Sportsmanship team.

Additionally, fourth-year Buccaneer mentor Megan Giammalvo was selected by her peers as the 2016 MASCAC Softball Sportsmanship Co-Coach of the Year along with Westfield State’s Colleen Bannister.  Giammalvo, who received the accolade for a second straight campaign, led Massachusetts Maritime to its highest single-season win total in a decade this spring.
