FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Senior Tori Cyrus (Everett, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in five runs to lead Fitchburg State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon by identical 8-0 finals in a pair of five inning affairs played at Coolidge Park.

The host Falcons (10-8, 3-1 MASCAC) grabbed a 3-0 second inning lead in the opener and iced their triumph with a five-run third inning rally highlighted by RBI singles off the bats of Cyrus and fellow seniors Marissa Gemma (Leominster, Mass.) and Brianna Uga (Everett, Mass.).  Cyrus and junior Jessalynne Brown (Malden, Mass.) each had two hits as part of a 10-hit attack in the lid-lifter for Fitchburg State, as junior Galen Kerr (Concord, Mass.) scattered three hits and fanned six over four frames for the hosts to improve to 4-6 on the spring.  Sophomore Carli Thomas (Brewster, Mass.) collected two hits and went the distance inside the circle in the opener for the visiting Buccaneers (1-9, 0-2 MASCAC), who also received a single off the bat of freshman Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass.).

Cyrus drove in three runs with a single and two-run triple in her first two at-bats of the nightcap for the Falcons, who raced out to a 7-0 advantage over the first two innings of action.  Junior Kelsea LeBlanc (Attleboro, Mass.) capped the sweep with a fifth inning RBI single for Fitchburg State, as freshman Kaylee Sylvestre (Central Falls, R.I.) tossed four hitless innings and struck out eight inside the circle while helping her own cause with three of the hosts’ 11 hits in the second contest.  Goodwin added her second hit of the day with a fifth inning single for Massachusetts Maritime, as Thomas again went the distance in allowing four earned runs and recording a strikeout for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State heads to Milton, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Curry in a non-league twinbill that begins at 3:00 p.m.
