GAME #1 FINAL:          FRAMINGHAM STATE 9, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1 (6 INNINGS)

GAME #2 FINAL:          FRAMINGHAM STATE 11, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1 (5 INNINGS)

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Junior Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) collected four hits and drove in four runs to lead Framingham State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 9-1 in the opener and 11-1 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

The host Rams (12-22, 4-6 MASCAC) jumped out to a 3-0 first inning advantage in the opener before Marsh’s two-run homer (her second of the season) extended that margin to 5-0 in the second.  The visiting Buccaneers (3-19, 0-10 MASCAC) got on the fourth on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass.), and Framingham State closed out its lid-lifter triumph with four runs in the sixth on a throwing error that was followed by run-scoring singles from Marsh and sophomore Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

Marsh and junior Marissa Flynn (Marlboro, Mass.) each rapped out two hits as part of a seven-hit attack in the opener for the Rams, as senior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) scattered three hits and struck out 11 to improve to 6-3 inside the circle for the hosts.  Goodwin collected a pair of hits in the opening game for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a single from sophomore Haley Delahanty (Holden, Mass.).  Sophomore Carli Thomas (Brewster, Mass.) allowed five earned runs in suffering the setback inside the circle for the visitors.

After the Buccaneers grabbed a 1-0 first inning lead in the nightcap on a single by freshman Rachel Gardner (Bourne, Mass.) and an error, Framingham State took control of the second contest with seven runs in its first two at-bats that were highlighted by a pair of two-run singles by sophomores Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) and Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.).  The Rams added four more tallies in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles off the bats of junior Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Dougal (Danvers, Mass.), a Pietersen run-scoring double and an RBI groundout by freshman Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, R.I.) to account for the final margin, as Marsh and sophomore Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) each had two of the hosts’ 12 nightcap hits.

Pietersen helped her own cause inside the circle with two hits and three RBI for Framingham State, as she scattered three hits and struck out seven to earn her second win of the spring.  Gardner rapped out two hits in the second contest for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a single from sophomore Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.).  Thomas again went the distance inside the circle for the visitors, allowing six earned runs and striking out one along the way.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Framingham State travels to Salem, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for a MASCAC twinbill with Salem State that begins at 2:00 p.m.
