WESTFIELD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team posted a solid 16th place team finish at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park, as the Buccaneers placed third among the seven Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference schools in the 37-team event.

 

Sophomore Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace once again for Massachusetts Maritime, as he placed 54th individually in a field of 388 runners with a time of 27:29.29 over the 8K layout.  Freshman Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) was next in 61st place with a time of 27:45.76, while senior Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) followed in 100th place with a time of 28:26.80.  Senior Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) closed out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 114th and 127th place individual finishes in times of 28:38.11 and 28:50.53, as host Westfield State took top honors in the competition with a score of 55 points to best both runner-up Williams (93) and third place Vassar (126).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston next Friday afternoon to compete in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational that begins at 4:45 p.m.
