MacVarish's 19th Place Performance Leads Men's Cross Country To Top Seven Finish At Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams tuned up for their upcoming league championship races with solid performances at the Ninth Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, as the Buccaneer men placed seventh of 20 teams while the Buccaneer women’s squad finished 14th overall in the competition.

 

Sophomore Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) continues to set the pace on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as he placed 19th individually with a time of 28:06 over the 7.95K layout, while freshman Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) followed in 23rd place with a time of 28:22.  Senior Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) and freshman Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) were next in 46th and 47th place for the Buccaneers with respective times of 29:20 and 29:21, while senior Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring in 51st place with a time of 29:25.  Babson took top honors in the team competition with a score of 65 points to best runner-up Wentworth (69) and third place Wheaton (86).

 

Like MacVarish on the men’s side, sophomore Mara Footit (Wilbraham, Mass.) set the pace once again for the Buccaneer women’s team in the event, as she placed 14th overall in a field of 157 runners with a time of 21:15 over the 5K layout.  Junior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) was next in 89th place with a time of 24:41, while freshman Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), sophomore Celeste Menard (Annandale, Va.) and senior Jillian Petrarca (Matunuck, R.I.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective 123rd, 127th and 134th place finishing times of 27:09, 27:18 and 28:01.  Wheaton took the team title on the women’s side with 30 points to outdistance runner-up Babson (104) and third-place Emmanuel (121).

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Saturday, November 1st when the Buccaneers compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference crowns at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships to be hosted by MCLA at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass. beginning at 11:00 a.m.
