Mucha Scores Eight Times in Bucs Conference Opening Win

CASTLETON, VT -- The Buccaneers men's lacrosse team opened their conference slate against Vermont State Castleton on Tuesday and behind eight goals from Quinn Mucha, the Bucs took care of Business up north, 20-7.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Quinn Mucha, the LEC Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row, led all scorers with eight goals. 
  • Jack IversenDaniel KaneCooper BarrettCooper McIntire, and Braeden Kosiewicz all scored twice. Ryan Cameron and Nick Leander both scored once. 
  • Daniel Kane notched six assists in the win, Kosiewicz had two helpers. Cameron, Mucha, Kyle Shanahan, Barrett McIntire, and Brian Rosher all had one assist.
  • Rosher led the team in ground balls with 10 and also won 19-of-30 faceoffs. In the first half of the game, Rosher eclipsed 500 career faceoff wins. 
  • Defensively, reigning LEC Defensive Player of the Week Chris Sullivan tallied four caused turnovers; Freshman Carson Percival had three.
  • In total, Maritime picked up 54 ground balls, were successful on 21-of-23 clears, won 19-of-30 faceoffs, scored one power play goal on three opportunities, and took 56 total shots.

Castleton

  • Carter Frankenhoff and Jordan Damske each scored twice. Preston Kozlowski, Cam Frankenhoff, and Hunter Sarro each scored once.
  • Casey Meczywor tallied three assists and Cam Frankenhoff added one helper.
  • Asa Forbes picked up seven ground balls to lead the Spartans.
  • On the faceoff, Hollis Jones won 9-of-28 for Castleton in the loss.
  • Defensively, Forbes caused two turnovers for the hosts.
  • In total, Castleton picked up 26 ground balls, were successful on 21-of-30 clear attempts, won 11-of-30 faceoffs, scored one power play goal on five opportunities, and took 27 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first just over a minute in on Mucha's first of the day. Castleton tied the game at 1-1 at 12:04 of the first. The bucs then scored five unanswered with Mucha scoring three times and Iversen and Kosiewicz each scoring once to take a 6-1 lead. The Spartans scored at 4:37 to make it 6-2. In the final three minutes of the first, each team scored one. Mucha scored his fifth and Damske netted one for the Hosts. The Bucs led 7-3 after one.

In the second, it took nearly eight minutes before either team scored and Maritime struck first in the quarter on Mucha's sixth. Castleton went on to out score the Bucs in the quarter scoring two more before the half to make the score 8-5 at the half.

The Buccaneers controlled the third quarter not allowing the Spartans to score at all and scoring five goals of their own. All five of the goals in the quarter came from different Bucs. Leander scored first, Barrett then made it 10-5, Mucha scored his seventh at 10:39 followed by McIntire and Kane to close out the third. Maritime led 13-5 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, Castleton scored first to make the score 13-6. Then, Cameron, Kosiewicz, and Barrett scored for the Buccaneers to go up by 10, 16-6. Castleton scored one more time at 6:36 on a power play running the score to 16-7. The Bucs closed out the game with four more goals from Kane, McIntire, Iversen and then Mucha with 25 seconds left to earn the 20-7 conference win over the Spartans.

The Bucs are on the road against Southern Maine in conference play on Saturday with faceoff scheduled for 1pm.
