Men's Lacrosse Battle to the Wire Against Curry

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Bucs men's lacrosse hosted Curry College on Saturday in a non-conference matchup. The Bucs and Colonels battled hard down to the final whistle with Curry coming out on top in the end, 12-11.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Quinn MuchaCooper Barrett, and Braeden osiewicz all had two goals in the game for Maritime.
  • Ryan CameronJack IversenKyle ShanahanDaniel Kane, and Joe Vricella each had one score.
  • Kane led all players in assists with six in the game. Iversen and Cooper McIntire each had one assist.
  • Faceoff man Brian Rosher picked up 16 ground balls in the game and wn 21-of-26 faceoffs he took. 
  • Defensively, Chris Sullivan led all players with five caused turnovers in the game.

Curry

  • Brody Dalzell scored four times in the win for Curry.
  • Dom Cerone added three scores, Mac Kline scored twice, Ethan Donovan, Alex Ripa, and Stephen Stackhouse all scored once. 
  • Dalzell and Cerone both had two assists in the game. Anthony Lewis, Kline and Stackhouse each had one. 
  • Dalzell led the team in ground balls with six on the night. 
  • Defensively, Dalzell also caused the most turnovers for the Colonels with four. 
  • In total, Curry picked up 25 ground balls, were successful on 24-of-25 clear attempts, won 5-of-26 faceoffs, scored two powerplay goals on four opportunities, and took 38 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

Maritime scored the first three goals of the game, all in the first seven minutes. Mucha scored first, Kosiewics and Vricella added goals after that to put the Buccaneers up 3-0 midway through the first. Over the final 7:21 of the first quarter, Curry managed to score three goals of their own, unanswered, to tie the game at 3-3 after one quarter of play.

In the second, Maritime scored the first two goals with the first from Kane and the second on a powerplay from Barrett to take a 5-3 lead. Donovan then scored for Curry on a power play to cut the Bucs lead to one, 5-4. Mucha proceeded to extend the lead back to two goals with his second at 7:38. Muc like the first quarter, Curry ended the half with three goals to take their first lead, 7-6, going into the half.

The Buccaneers quickly tied the game at the start of the third quarter and the teams remained tied for six minutes. Then, at 4:24 of the third, Kosiewicz broke the tie to put the Bucs back up, 8-7. Ripa had other ideas scorin just over a minute later to tie the game again at 8-8. Over the final three minutes, each team scored two goals each with Curry scoring last in the third to tie the game at 10-10 heading to the fourth.

In a very defensive fourth quarter, the Bucs scored first 43 seconds in to take an 11-10 lead. Maritime held off Curry for the next seven minute and then nCerone tied the score at 11-11. Two minutes later, Cerone did it again, this time to give his team their second lead of the game and a lead that they would not give up. The Bucs attempted to tie the game late, even getting a shot off with one second left in the game but were unable to hold off the Colonels, losing 12-11.

The Buccaneers are home again on Tuesday, March 12th to take on Wheaton College at 7pm.
