Bucs Lose to Owls on the Road

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Saturday night, the Bucs travelled to Westfield State to take on the Owls in MASCAC play. Though the Owls came in to the game 4-8, 1-1 in conference, they were triumphant over the Bucs, 16-2.

Saturday was the second lowest scoring game of the season for the Bucs as they were only able to muster two goals, one from Alyssa Blumenthal (Braintree, Mass), and the other from leading scorer Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass). Blumenthal also had an assist in the contest. Freshman goalie Laura Kleber (Westport, Mass) faced 24 Owls shots, saved eight and allowed 16 goals.

Westfield's Elizabeth Navoni and Maddie Bartkus each scored a game-high four goals, Navoni added an asits. Alex Tonelli scored two goals on two shots. The other six Owl goals were scored by six different players, including Melissa Nimeskern who scored once and assisted on two goals. Sydney Lambert assisted on four different goals in the game for Westfield while also winning six draw controls.

Westfield scored six times before the Buccaneers could find the back of the net in the first half. The Owl's first goal came 30 seconds in to the game, the Bucs game with just under 10 minutes to play when Blumenthal scored. Westfield added another goal in the first to take a 7-1 lead going in to the halftime break.

The Owls scored five goals to begin the second half, running their unanswered streak to six once again, going back to the first half. With 11:30 left in regulation, Sullivan scored the second and final Buccaneer goal with an assist from Blumenthal. The Owls scored four more times before the clock hit zero to win the game 16-2.

Next up for the Buccaneers is a home MASCAC matchup with Bridgewater State on Wednesday, April 17th at 7pm.
