Buccaneers Swat Hornets for Second Win of the Season

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Sunday afternoon, the Bucs hosted NVU-Lyndon at Clean Harbors Stadium in their second home game of the weekend. Though Saturday did not go the way the Bucs wanted, they turned things around on Sunday taking down the Hornets 20-1.

The Buccaneers 20 goals were scored by 13 different players in the game with Alyssa Blumenthal (Braintree, Mass) leading the way with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass) was one of five other Buccaneers to score two goals in the game. The two goals put Sullivan third on the MMA women's lacrosse all-time scoring list. Attacker Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass) was one of those players, the other three were names not commonly found on the goals side of the score sheet, Amanda Gould (Buzzards Bay, Mass), Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass), and Olivia Noonan (Sandwich, Mass). Sophomore attacker Anna Deel (Marstons Mills, Mass) who is normally known for her goal scoring, found herself in the mix defensively, causing five turnovers in the game. The team as a whole caused 13 of the 31 Hornet turnovers.

Lyndon's goal was scored by Bayla Stewart (Newport, Vt) who also had the only shot on target for the team in the game. Goalie Zoe Pierce-Olhson (Gales Ferry, Conn) allowed the 20 Maritime goals on 24 shots on target, making four saves.

The Buccaneers scored 11 goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half. Blumenthal opened the scoring 45 second in the game. Maritime scored two more goals to take a 13-0 lead before Stewart got the Hornets on the board with just over seven minutes to play in the half. Following the NVU goal, the Bucs added three more to send the game to the half with a 16-1 advantage.

In the second half, the Buccaneers score four more times, including goals by defensive players Coreen Carley (Brentwood, N.H.) and Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass). Maritime cruised to their second victory of the season, 20-1 over the Hornets.

The Buccaneers are off until Friday, March 22nd when they will take on Bay Path University at Clean Harbors Stadium at 7pm
