BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Coming in to Friday night's MASCAC game against Worcester State, the Buccaneers sat in fourth place after one conference game while the Lancers were a spot ahead in. In the battle for third place in the conference Friday the Lancers were triumphant, 15-6, over the Bucs.

For the Buccaneers, Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass) scored three goals, tied for the most in the game. Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass) found the back of the net twice for the Bucs and Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass) rounded out the scoring for the Buccaneers. Freshman Alyssa Blumenthal (Braintree, Mass) wasn't able to score but she did rack up two assists. Similarly, Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) did not score but did have an assist in the game. Deely also led the team defensively with three caused turnovers. Defender Hannah Mannai (Keene, N.H.) had two caused turnovers of her own. Goalie Laura Kleber (Westport, Mass) made six saves on 21 shots and allowed the 15 Lancer goals.

Worcester State's Madison Brennan (Pomfret, Conn) scored three goals to lead the Lancers offensively. Four players score twice for the guests, including Anna Maher (Mansfield, Mass) and Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass) who each had two assists to go along with their two scores. Junior Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass) had two assists as well, and scored once. Hopkins led the game defensively with four caused turnovers. In goal, sophomore Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass) faced 10 shots, saved four and allowed the six Maritime goals.

Mass Maritime scored first just over five minutes in on a free position shot by Balentine to take the 1-0 lead. That lead was erased a minute later by Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass). Hayes scored again five minutes later to give the Lancers the lead. Worcester scored eight more times in the first half, going on a 10-0 run. Going in to the break, the Lancers led the Bucs, 10-1.

In the second half, the Lancers scored first, extended their run to 11 unanswered. Sullivan scored her first shortly after the Worcester goal to bring the game back within 10, 11-2. Though Maritime matched Worcester State's five second half goals, the first half differential was never overcome. Haye's second first half goal would prove to be the game winner and Worcester State left Buzzards Bay with their second conference win, knocking the Bucs to 1-1 in conference, 7-4 overall and ending their six-game win streak.
