FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 11, WHEELOCK 4

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) netted a hat trick and three assists for a career-high six points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to an 11-4 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Wheelock Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Hunt collected a pair of tallies in the opening 21-plus minutes of play to help stake the host Buccaneers (2-2) to a 4-2 advantage at the break, and after the two teams traded goals in the opening 1:16 after intermission, Massachusetts Maritime used four unanswered markers, including a pair off the stick of sophomore Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) over a 13:31 stretch to take a 9-3 lead with 14:34 remaining.  Senior Molly Centore’s (Kennebunk, Maine) free position conversion with just over 12 minutes to play sliced the visiting Wildcats’ (0-3) deficit back to five, but goals by Hunt and sophomore Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) in a 32 second span late in the closing minutes of the match iced the hosts’ triumph.

Solari, Seggelin and junior Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) each notched a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received single tallies from sophomore Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.).  Junior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) collected a pair of assists for the Buccaneers, who have won all three series meetings with Wheelock dating back to 2012.

Centore netted a hat trick in the setback for the Wildcats, who also received a goal off the stick of freshman Molly Koon (Londonderry, N.H.).  Freshman Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) earned her first career victory in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a nine-save effort, while sophomore Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) made 10 stops in 47-plus minutes of play for Wheelock, which also received five saves over the final 12-plus minutes of action from freshman Carina Lawrence (Andover, Mass.).  The Buccaneers outshot the Wildcats by a 27-15 margin and forced 23 turnovers on the night.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Adams, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MCLA in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Wheelock hosts Southern Vermont on Thursday evening in the North Atlantic Conference lid-lifter for both squads that begins at 7:00 p.m. in Boston.
