Langley, Piche, Proskcha & Smith Tabbed As Women's Lacrosse Captains For 2015 Campaign

The fourth varsity season of Massachusetts Maritime women’s lacrosse is set to begin in just over a month’s time, and as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign, third-year Head Coach Leslie Bushy has announced that seniors Jenelle Piche and Deb Langley, along with juniors Janine Prokscha and Molly Smith, will serve as the Buccaneer captains in 2015.

Prokscha, a native of Washington, Conn. and a graduate of The Gunnery, is one of the top returning scorers for Massachusetts Maritime this spring, as she netted 15 goals and six assists for 21 points in 12 contests last season and has amassed 32 points in 25 career outings.  Smith, a native of Westwood, Mass. and a graduate of Westwood High School, has also been a top scorer for the Buccaneers, as she notched 11 goals and four assists for 15 points in 11 matches last year while collecting 34 goals and 42 points over the last two seasons of action.  Both Prokscha and Smith served as Bushy’s co-captains in 2014 and return to the role once again.

Piche, a native of Coventry, R.I. and a graduate of Coventry High School, has been a standout on the defensive side for Massachusetts Maritime over the last three springs, as she netted a goal and five assists for six points last season while collecting 16 ground balls over the course of her career.  Langley, a native of Abington, Mass. and a graduate of South Shore Vocational Technical High School, returns to the Buccaneer cage after a year’s hiatus, as she made a school record 176 saves in goal in 2013 and helped lead Bushy’s squad to a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament berth in just their second season of varsity competition.

“The foundation that has been created for the program over the last three years has been made possible by the leadership and example that these four young women have provided to their teammates on the field and in the campus community off of it,” Bushy says of her captains.  “Their determination, enthusiasm and hard work will undoubtedly play a key role in our success this season.”

Massachusetts Maritime begins the 2015 season on Saturday, March 14th by heading to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to take on rival Maine Maritime in first round play of the inaugural Maritime Cup (hosted by SUNY-Maritime) beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
