FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 16, ELMS 5

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) netted four goals and an assist, while junior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.) also added five points each to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 16-5 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Elms Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (5-5) scored four goals, including a pair by Pingree, in the opening 8:56 of action to take the early lead, and after the visiting Blazers (5-6) sliced their deficit to three on senior Nora McDonough’s (South Hadley, Mass.) marker, Massachusetts Maritime ran off four more unanswered tallies (including two from Solari) in just over three minutes to grab an 8-1 advantage en route to a 9-3 edge at the break.  The Buccaneers iced their triumph with seven unanswered scores, including two off the stick of junior Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.), over a 21-plus minute stretch after intermission to extend their school single-season victories mark in just their fourth varsity collegiate campaign.

Pingree finished with a hat trick and two assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of goals and three assists from Smith to go with a hat trick and a helper off the stick of freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.).  Sophomores Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) also tallied for the Buccaneers, who have won three of the four series matchups overall from the visitors.  McDonough netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the setback for Elms, which also received markers from senior Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.), junior Jill Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) on the evening.

Freshman Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up her fourth win of the season in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a nine save effort, while sophomore Meeghan O’Connor (Fall River, Mass.) made 10 stops in the setback for Elms as the Buccaneers outshot the Blazers by a 31-20 margin overall and forced 15 turnovers for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Framingham, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 10:00 a.m., while Elms hosts Southern Vermont in a New England Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon in Chicopee, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
