WESTFIELD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field team enjoyed solid performances on Saturday afternoon at the 19-team Westfield State Jerry Gravel Invitational that took place on the Jerry Gravel Track.

Sophomore Chris Sullo (Canton, Mass.) posted a pair of top eight finishes on the men’s side for the Buccaneers, as he placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.82 meters and eighth in the triple jump with a performance of 12.11 meters.  Junior Rory O’Donnell (Somerset, Mass.) continued his early season success in the triple jump as well for Massachusetts Maritime, as he placed third in the event with a mark of 13.25 meters, while freshman Evan Balderelli (Brimfield, Mass.) added a fourth top 10 finish on the day for the Buccaneers by placing ninth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.29.

Sophomore James Hutchinson (Pembroke, Mass.) posted an 11th place performance in the javelin with a mark of 47.98 meters for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a 12th place effort from Balderelli in the triple jump (10.48 meters) and a 14th place finish in the hammer throw from sophomore Kevin Quinn (Barrington, R.I.) of 34.63 meters.  The Buccaneers scored 13 points as a team to place 15th overall in the competition.

Junior Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) also continued her early season success in the javelin, as she finished sixth in the event with a mark of 32.22 meters for Massachusetts Maritime on the women’s side.

The Buccaneers return to action next Saturday morning by heading to Fitchburg, Mass. to participate in the Fitchburg State Jim Sheehan Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m.
