Massachusetts Maritime's O'Donnell Named As MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete Of The Week

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Massachusetts Maritime junior Rory O’Donnell was named as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon for his efforts at the season-opening Northeastern Husky Spring Open last Saturday.

A native of Somerset, Mass. and a graduate of Somerset High School, O’Donnell finished second in the triple jump for the Buccaneers with a mark of 12.97 meters in the event, as he qualified for the 2010 New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will take place in early May.

The honor is the second conference accolade that O’Donnell has earned in the sport of outdoor track & field, as he was tabbed as the MASCAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week in April 2009.  A two-sport standout at the Academy, O’Donnell is serving as one of the Buccaneers’ tri-captains this spring and has been a three-year letterwinner in soccer during his tenure at Massachusetts Maritime.

The Buccaneers will compete at the Westfield State Jerry Gravel Invitational on Saturday morning in Westfield, Mass. beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
