Cambridge, Mass.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team encountered extreme conditions throughout the weekend in posting a 16th place overall finish at the MIT Oberg Trophy Regatta that took place on the Charles River.

Senior Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) and freshman Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat crew, while junior Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.), sophomore Catherine Haines (East Haddam, Conn.) and freshman Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) sailed in Massachusetts Maritime’s “B” vessel.  Junior Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and sophomore Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.) joined Gratta throughout the weekend in the Buccaneer “C” boat, as competitors faced heavy rains on Saturday and wind gusts up to 40 knots during the day on Sunday.  Roger Williams took top honors in the event, while Tufts and Yale finished in the respective runner-up and third place spots.

Massachusetts Maritime, which was ranked in the top 17 in New England last week, will compete next weekend at the Coast Guard Schell Trophy Regatta.
