BOSTON, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team opened its spring schedule with a  solid seventh place performance among 18 entrants competing at the Boston University Central Series Two Regatta Saturday afternoon on the Charles River.

Freshman Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat tandem, while sophomores Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.) and Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.) skippered the “B” vessel.  Bowen and Stephani posted a fourth place overall finish in the A division in cloudy conditions that saw breezes shift during the course of the day, as Tufts took top honors in the event with a score of 28 points to best runner-up Roger Williams (35) and third place Boston College (36) in the competition.  Massachusetts Maritime’s 64 points topped Northeastern, Brown and Johnson & Wales to secure a top 10 finish on the afternoon.

The Buccaneers will host the Great Herring Pond Open Regatta next Sunday morning (April 2nd) at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center beginning at 9:00 a.m.
