FALMOUTH, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team began its fall schedule by taking top honors in the Quissett Round-The-Bay Regatta last Saturday afternoon in beautiful conditions on Buzzards Bay.

Sailing in the vessel Terrapin, the Buccaneers took advantage of a breeze of 10-12 knots to gain control of the competition against 18 other boats.  Massachusetts Maritime’s crew consisting of sophomores Matthew Considine (Mansfield, Mass.), McKenna Jarvis (Dedham, Mass.) and Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.), along with freshmen Megan Laurie (North Weymouth, Mass.), Brandon Horvath (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.), stayed near the front of the pack in the middle of the race before making a successful tack in the last leg to pull ahead near the finish line.

The Buccaneer offshore squad will travel to Annapolis, Md. this weekend to participate in the prestigious Navy Shields Trophy Regatta that begins Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.
