Women's Rowing Competes at Prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta

Cool temperatures and bright sunshine greeted Maritime rowers early Sunday morning on their arrival in Boston for our first return to the Head of the Charles in 3 years.  Conditions were pretty close to ideal for competitors throughout the day.

Both our men and women were entered in the highly competitive Championship Fours events so we knew we had our work cut out for us, but the goal was to give the best possible race effort on the world's toughest course against the country's best competition.  And we succeeded!

Maritime's women's varsity four included captains Colleen Weir and Coreen Carley, as well as Mariana GubertMeghan Reilly, and coxswain Maura Odell. They've raced together in this line-up most of the fall and had good results in each outing, including a bronze finish last week and on Sunday at the Head of the Charles.  With two months of heavy training and a lot of strategic preparation specifically for this regatta, their boat expertly navigated the Power House stretch, five difficult turns and six bridges that cause coxswains and coaches sleepless nights leading up to race day. The team finished 14th in the race with a final time of 22:34.887.

The Buccaneers will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 30th at the Wormtown Chase on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury, MA.
