Bucs Drop Two to Framingham In Conference Play

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- The Buccaneers took on the top team in the MASCAC on Sunday and dropped both games of the doubleheader, 9-1 and 11-1. 

 

Game One

The Basics

Final: Rams 9, Buccaneers 1 (5 Innings)

Records: Framingham (9-8, 4-1)

               Maritime (9-6, 0-5)

Framingham

  • Kelsey McGuill had three hits in the game. Gwendolyn Carpenter, Marine Cadena, and Shelby Roode all had two hits. Four other Rams had one hit each.
  • Roode drove in four runs, McGuill drove in three. Carpenter and Makayla Rooney each drove in one.
  • Brooke Grassia, McGuill, and Cadena all scored twice. Carpenter, Eliza Carignan, and Victoria Connelly all scored once.
  • Carpenter and McGuill each homered once. Cadena recorded a triple. Roode had two doubles and Rooney and McGuill had one each.
  • Carpenter and Grassia were each credited with a stolen base.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Patane sacrifice fly that scored Kerecz. In the bottom of the innings, the Rams tied the game on an RBI double from McGuill.

Tied at 1-1, Framingham scored against in the bottom of the second when Roode hit a sacrifice fly to center and Cadena scored to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Carpenter hit a solo home run and McGuill hit a two-run home run to extend the Rams lead to 5-1. 

The Rams scored again in the bottom of the fourth with two runs coming in on doubles from Roode and Rooney to make the score 7-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Roode doubled again to bring in two runs and earn the run-rule victory for the Rams, 9-1.

Maritime

  • Sarah Holler had two of the Bucs three hits in the game. Jennamarie Klemp recorded the third hit in the loss.
  • Klemp drove in the lone run for Maritime.
  • Ava Rolfe scored the run in the game.
  • Holler has a double, the lone extra base hit for the Bucs.

Framingham

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter and Shelby Roode each had two hits in the win.
  • Five other Rams recorded one hit each.
  • Roode drove in three runs and Brooke Grassia and Talia Duca each drove in two. Three other Framingham hitters were credited with an RBI.

How It Happened

Framingham scored first in the bottom of the first and jumped out to a 5-0 lead. They extended their lead in the bottom of the third to 7-0 and again in the bottom of the fourth to 11-0. 

Maritime scored their lone run in the top of the fifth on a single to center from Klemp that scored Rolfe. The Bucs lost game two and the doubleheader, 11-1.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers are scheduled to travel to Dean College on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Bulldogs at 4pm.
