Bucs Lose to Owls in Conference Play at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Softball hosted Westfield State in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday and the Owls came out swinging to beat the Bucs, 10-0 in game one and 7-0 in a rain shortened game two.

 

Game One

The Basics

  • Christina Ciampa and Abby Clark each had three hits for the Owls. Hannah Wodecki and Sarah Hough both had two hits. Five other Westfield hitters had a hit each.
  • Jordyn Lummus drove in two runs. Seven other Owls drove in one run apiece.
  • Ciampa, Hough, and Abby Clark each scored twice. Lummus, Wodecki, Alyssa Clark, and Arielle Ostman all scored once. 
  • Abby Clark had two triples in the game, Ciamapa had one. Hough had a double to round out the extra base hits for the Owls.
  • Mia Alfonso recorded the only stolen base in the game.

 

How It Happened

After Klemp and Canty cruised through the first two innings, the Owls broke out in the top of the third scoring four times to take a 4-0 lead. 

In the top of fifth, the Owls added another and led 5-0.

Westfield scored again in the top of the sixth and took a 6-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Westfield sealed the deal with four more runs and won game one, 10-0.

  • Hannah Wodecki had three hits in the game. Sarah Hough recorded two and Alyssa Clark had one.
  • Wodecki drove in five of the Owls seven runs, Hough brought in the other two.
  • Christina Ciampa scored twice and five other Owls came in to score once.
  • Wodecki recorded a home run and two doubles in the game. Hough had two doubles for Westfield in the win.
  • Ciampa and Arielle Ostman each had a stolen base.

How It Happened

The Owls scored first in the top of the first on a Wodecki double to left field to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Wodecki hit a solo home run over the left field fence to put her team up 3-0. Hough doubled later in the inning to drive in two runs and make the score 5-0.

With the rain falling in Buzzards Bay, Wodecki doubled in two runs in the top of the sixth and the game was later called due to weather and Westfield won game two, 7-0.
