Softball Sweeps Bulldogs in Rainy Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Dean College in non-conference play on Tuesday and swept the day with 9-4 and 11-3 wins. During game one, Jennamarie Klemp recorded her 100th career strikeout becoming the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone.

  • Alyssa Ribarovski, Meredith Landers, and Emily Kilpatrick all had two hits for the Bulldogs. Sydnee Ramos, Leah Chamberlain, and Bryce DeGasparre all had one hit. 
  • Landers was the only Dean hitter to be credited with an RBI.
  • Landers also scored two runs. Ribarovski and Ramos scored once each.
  • Chamberlain had the only extra base hit for the Bulldogs, a double.
  • Ribarovski stole two bases and Liana Silva stole one.

How It Happened

Dean scored first in the top of the first inning when Ribarovski stole second and the throw down from Booker went into left center field and Ribarovski came around to score on the two-base error. Dean led after a half inning, 1-0. In the bottom of the first, the Bucs tied the game and took the lead. Booke drove in the first run on a ground rule double to left to score Kerecz from second. Then, Patane grounded out to second and scored Burton from third to give Maritime a 2-1 lead after one. 

In the top of the second, the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 on another error by the Bucs. After a Glynn sacrifice bunt, the Bucs had a miscue that allowed the base runner on second to score.

After holding the Buccaneers scoreless in the bottom of the second, Dean took the lead for the second time in the game on a Landers infield single scoring Ramos from third. Maritime answered in the bottom of the third and scored three runs. Patane doubled to bring in Burton, Holler singled to score Rolfe and Patane to give Maritime a 5-3 avantage.

The Bucs struck again in the bottom of the fourth scoring three times. Booker reached on an Dean error that plated Donlan, Patane tripled to right center bringing in Booker, and Holler reached on another Dean miscue to bring in Patane. The Bucs led 8-3 after four.

Neither team scored in the fifth, and in the sixth, Dean scored a run on a wild pitch by Klemp to cut the deficit in half, 8-4 Buccaneers. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Booker put the icing on the cake with her second home run of the season over the left field wall.

Klemp kept the Bulldogs at bay in the top of the seventh and recorded her 100th career strikeout and finished the game off to secure the 9-4 game one win.

  • Chamberlain recorded the only stolen base of the game.

How It Happened

Dean scored first in game two and took a 1-0 lead on a Glynn ground out that scored Ramos from third. Booker drove in a run for the Bucs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1. 

In the bottom of the second, the Bucs took the lead for good, scoring one run on a Donlan single up the middle to score Catlett. The Bucs led 2-1 after two.

Maritime scored two more times in the bottom of the third, once on a Patane double to score Booker and the second run on a Dean error that allowed Patane to score. Maritime was up 4-1 after three.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless for both teams and in the top of the sixth Dean scored twice to cut the Bucs lead to one run. Glynn tripled to right center to bring in one and Silva singled, scoring Glynn from third. In the bottom of the frame, Maritime put the game away scoring six times to take an 11-3 lead and win the game by run rule after six innings.

Maritime is back home on Saturday to take on Westfield State in conference play beginning at 12pm.
