Softball Sweeps Bay Path in Comeback Fashion

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Softball hosted Bay Path on Tuesday afternoon at home and won both games in comeback fashion after trailing 2-1 in game one and 2-0 in game two, winning game one, 5-3, and game two, 3-2.

 

Game One

The Basics

Maritime

  • MASCAC Player of the Week, Ab'c'de Patane recorded three hits in the game for the Bucs. Hannah Burton, and MASCAC Rookie of the Week Sarah Holler each had one hit.
  • Patane, Holler, and Klemp all drove in one run. 
  • Patane scored three times, Burton and Ava Rolfe both scored once.
  • Patane stole three bases in the game, Holler stole one. 

Bay Path

  • Emma Scheeren recorded two hits in the loss. Alyssa Colangelo, Madi Vera, Taylor Suffoletto, and Madison Tessmer each recorded one hit.
  • Vera drove in two runs and Grace Ramsey drove in one run.
  • Scheeren, Colangelo, Tessmer all scored once. 
  • Colangelo stole a base for the Wildcats in the game.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers struck first in the bottom of the second on a double steal by Holler and Patane with Patane scoring from third to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Vera singled to right center with two runners on and drove them both in to take a 2-1 lead over the Bucs in the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Buccaneers tied the game when Patane scored on a wild pitch. 

Tied 2-2, the Bucs took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Patane singled to bring in a run, Holler followed that with a single to score Rolfe, and Klemp reached on a fielder's choice that brought in Patane for a third time. The Bucs led 5-2 after six.

In the top of the seventh, Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Colangelo to score. From there, Klemp shut the door to earn the 5-3 comeback win in game one.

  • Taylor Suffoletto, Caroline Austin, Belle Ferrara, and Madison Tessmer each had one hit in the game.
  • Austin and Ferrara drove in the two runs. 
  • Suffoletto and Austin scored the two runs in the loss. 
  • Austin had a triple, the only extra base hit in the game for either team.

How It Happened

Bay Path took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on Austin's triple that scored Suffoletto and Ferrara's single that scored Austin.

Neither team scored from the third to the fifth and then in the sixth the Bucs scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Patane singled and Rolfe came in to score. With Kerecz on third and Patane on second, Holler delivered a single to left center bringing both runs in to score to take the lead. 

In the top of the seventh, Catlett allowed one base runner and then got the final two outs to complete the sweep of the Wildcats with a 3-2 final in game two.

The Buccaneers open conference play on Friday against Salem State in Salem at 4pm.
