Sailing Finishes 4th in Penobscot Open and Harman Trophy

CASTINE, ME -- The Buccaneers sailing team opened their season this past weekend at Maine Maritime competing in the Penobscot Bay Open and the Harman Trophy. After the first day of races the Bucs were in third and fourth in the regattas and finished on Sunday with fourth place finishes in both.

 

Penobscot Bay Open

In the PBO, the Buccaneers finished the weekend with 86 points, good for fourth place. They were four points back of Vermont and Maine Maritime's top boat who each finished with 82 points. Northeastern ran away with the regatta scoring a total of 37 points. 

In the weekend's 14 races, the Buccaneers recorded six top five finishes with a race victory as well. Their 86 points was good enough to beat the fourth place finishers from UNH by 56 points. Maine Maritime's second and third boats finished sixth and seventh and McGill brought up the rear in eighth with 191 race points.

 

Harman Trophy

In another field of eight boats, the Bucs finished fourth in the Harman Trophy with 27 points. Ahead of the Buccaneers in the top three spots were Tufts with 22 points, Maine Maritime with 16 points and Bowdoin who won Harman with nine points. The Bucs finished four points ahead of Boston University.

In the six races for the Harman, the Buccaneers finished top four in four of six races including two second placed finishes. In the final two races of the regatta they recorded a DNF and a seventh place finish to secure their fourth place spot.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers travel to MIT and Bowdoin this weekend for the Hatch Brown Trophy and the Barnett Trophy respectively.
