MacVarish, Rosenberg Named As 2016 Massachusetts Maritime Men's Cross Country Co-Captains

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team is off and running in its preparations for the 2016 season, and with that second year Head Coach Chris Slattery has named seniors Jake MacVarish and Connor Rosenberg as the Buccaneers’ co-captains for the upcoming campaign.

MacVarish, a native of Braintree, Mass. and a graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural High School, has been Massachusetts Maritime’s top performer over the last three seasons, as he earned all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades last fall after placing seventh at the league championship race.  Jake, who was a Buccaneer team co-captain as a junior, will also serve as vice president of the MASCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the academic year.

Rosenberg, a native of Brooklyn, Conn. and a graduate of Woodstock Academy, posted a 19th place individual finish in helping the Buccaneers claim their second straight title in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational last September, and he also helped Slattery’s squad place fourth at the 2015 MASCAC Championships.

“The success that our program has enjoyed is directly equated to the leadership that our captains provide each year, and I couldn’t be more pleased that Jake and Connor have accepted the challenge of continuing that tradition,” Slattery said of his co-captains.  “They push their teammates in practice, in competition and in the regiment, and their determination to represent the Academy in the highest positive manner possible is what being a Buccaneer is all about.”

Massachusetts Maritime begins the new season on Saturday, September 10th by heading to Biddeford, Maine to compete in the University of New England Invitational at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
