Bucs Sink Corsairs in Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Men's soccer welcomed UMass Dartmouth to Clean Harbors Stadium Tuesday evening for the team's final non-conference game of the season. After drawing 2-2 with UMD in 2022, the Bucs earned all three points from tonight's matchup by a 4-2 final.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain CJ Vincent, junior Ryan Soughou, sophomore Luke Twomey, and freshman Brody Calvert all scored in the win
  • Vincent was credited with an assist on the Twomey goal.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kaden Winter made 11 saves and allowed the two Corsairs goals.
  • In total, Maritime took 11 shots, eight on target, and took three corner kicks in the match.

 

UMass Dartmouth

  • Sam Matias and Jacob Murphy were the goal scorers for the Corsairs in the loss.
  • Goalkeeper Jack Waterhouse made four saves on eight shots and allowed the four Maritime goals.
  • In total, UMD took 21 shots, 14 on target, and had three corners in the match.

How It Happened

For the second time this season, Calvert opened the game with a goal within the first five minutes with his 11th goal of the season. The Bucs kep the shutout lead for more than 20 minutes. Then, Matias struck for the visitors in the 23rd minute to tie the game at 1-1. The match stayed tied at 1-1 into the halftime break.

In the second half, Maritime retook the lead as quickly as they did in the first half. Vincent scored in the 48th minute fiving Maritime a 2-1 advantage. Five minutes later, in the 52nd minute, Soughou joined the party with a score of his own to give Maritime a commanding 3-1 lead. Twomey followed up in the 63rd minute with the Bucs fourth goal of the evening on an assist from Vincent extending the Buccaneers lead to 4-1. The Corsairs finally answered in the 80th minute on Murphy's goal to get his team within two goals, 4-2. The Buccaneers held on to their two-goal lead until the final whistle for their fourth victory of the season.

The Buccaneers close out their 2023 season on Friday at home against Worcester State in conference play at 7pm.
