Maritime Loses Non-conference Matchup with Rams

BOSTON, Mass -- The Buccaneers men's soccer team traveled to the big city to take on the Suffolk Rams in non-conference play on Tuesday and for the first time in 2023, the team was shutout by the strong Rams team, 4-0.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • CJ Vincent led the Bucs in shots with five total and two on target. 
  • Harry Cooley had two shots in the game, both on target.
  • Brody Calvert fired four shots with one on target in the loss.
  • Goalkeeper Payton Neale made his first career start in the match. He made four saves and allowed four goals.
  • In total, the Buccaneers took 16 shots, seven on target and had four corner in the game.

 

 

Suffolk

  • Francisco Valck scored twice for the Rams in the win and had an assist.
  • Carter Van Buskirk scored once and added an assist.
  • Erik Van Even scored the fourth goal of the game for Suffolk.
  • Jack Phelps and Jeremy Cooke each had an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Nathan Harlow faced seven Buc shots and made seven saves in the victory.
  • In total, the Rams had 16 shots, eight on target and had just one corner kick.

How It Happened

The Rams opened the game with two goals in the first 10 minutes. Valck scored the first in the third minute and Van Buskirk followed that up with a goal in the sixth minute, giving the Rams a 2-0 advantage. The Bucs defense held strong for the remainder of the first half but they themselves could not find the back of the net. Suffolk led the match 2-0 at the break.

Suffolk opened the second half with a quick goal in the 48th minute, taking a 3-0 lead in the match on Valck's second goal. A little over 20 minutes later, the Rams added another goal, this one from Van Even in the 71st minute. The Rams carried the 4-0 lead to the end of the game as they shutout the Bucs.

The Buccaneers are on the road on Friday evening at 6pm against MCLA in conference play in North Adams.
