BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Friday evening, the Buccaneers men's soccer team opened their MASCAC slate at home against Westfield State. The Bucs trailed early and took a lead in the opening minutes of the second half, then, the Owls scored twice to take a 3-2 lead and take the conference opener back to Western Mass.

• Brody Calvert scored his fourth goal of the season in the 41st minute.
• Senior Captain CJ Vincent scored his fourth of the year in the 65th minute.
• Quinn Kelly recorded his first point of the year with an assist on the Calvert goal.

• Goalkeeper Kaden Winter made two saves and allowed three goals in the loss.

• Coleby Andrade scored the first Owls goal in the sixth minute.
• Matthew Allen scored the game-tying goal in the 70th minute.
• Carter Hebert netted the game winner in the 82nd.
• Andrade had the only assist for the Owls on Allen's score.
• Goalkeeper Luke Theroux made five saves and allowed two Buc goals in the win.

How It Happened

Westfield capitalized on a Buccaneers turnover early in the game and on a failed clear attempt by the hosts, Andrare was there to shoot from the top of the 18 yard box and score the first goal in the sixth minute. 35 minutes later, the Bucs found their way back into the game on a breakaway by Kelly and Calvert. Kelly delivered a perfect pass to Calvert on the right side and he buried it to tie the game at 1-1 nearing the end of the first half. The teams remained tied at the end of the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, it took less than 20 minutes for the Bucs to find the back of the net again, this time off the foot of Vincent for his fourth, a career-high, on a pass inside the box from Soughou. Five minutes later, the Owls erased the Buccaneers lead scoring their second goal of the game from Allen. With 20 minutes to go, each team found themselves with ample opportunities to take the lead. Westfield did just that in the 82nd minute of Hebert's second goal of the season giving the Owls a 3-2 lead. Westfield held on, despite pressure from Maritime, and took the conference opener, 3-2.
