Bucs Lose Non-Conference Game to Bison on the Road

DUDLEY, Mass -- The Bucs men's soccer team traveled to Nichols College on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup with the Bison. Nichols took an early 2-0 lead that the Buccaneers cut in half early in the second half but the Bison added three more to take the match, 5-1.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Sophomore PJ Cullivan scored his first collegiate goal in the match for the Bucs.
  • Senior captain CJ Vincent led the Bucs in shots with four in the loss.
  • Goalkeeper Kaden Winter started the match and made five saves while allowing four goals in 81 minutes of work.
  • Freshman keeper Payton Neale made his Buccaneers debut in goal and played nine minutes making a save and allowing a Nichols goal.
  • In total, the Bucs tallied 11 shots, three on target, and earned two corner kicks in the game.

Nichols

  • Tristan Phillips scored twice for the Bison in the win.
  • Juanesteban Hincapie, William Pugliese-Savage, and Miron Jusufi each scored once in the match.
  • Pugliese-Savage, Cody Porter, and Nicholas De Paula each tallied an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Derek Axon faced three shots and made two saves while allowing the lone Buccaneers goal.

How It Happened 

Nichols opened the scoring 11 seconds into the match with a goal from Hincapie. The Bison held the 1-0 advantage until the 28th minute when they extended the lead to two goals with Pugliese-Savage's goal. Nichols took the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, after 20 minutes of no scoring, the Buccaneers found life with a goal from Cullivan, unassisted, in the 67th minute. Up just one, the Bison went on to score three more goals in the 73rd, 74th and 86th minutes to secure the 5-1 win over Maritime.

The Buccaneers are back home for their next match on Friday night at 7pm when they open their conference schedule against Westfield State.
