MEDFORD, Mass. --  Senior Scott Staniewicz (Boca Raton, Fla.) and junior Nick Cutsumpas (White Plains, N.Y.) each drove in a pair of runs as Tufts received a combined three-hit shutout from seven different pitchers en route to a 6-0 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday afternoon at Huskins Field.

Staniewicz broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double that gave the host Jumbos (7-5) the only runs they would on the day, as sophomore Connor McDavitt (Holden, Mass.) followed with an RBI two-bagger to complete a three-run rally.  A sacrifice fly by sophomore Bryan Egan (Watervliet, N.Y.) in the sixth was followed by a run-scoring single by Cutsumpas, who added an RBI triple in the eighth to close out the scoring.

McDavitt joined Cutsumpas with two hits as part of a seven-hit attack in the triumph for the Jumbos, as junior Josh Manning (Upton, Mass.) picked up his second victory of the season on the mound for the hosts with a scoreless fifth frame in relief.  Senior Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) collected a double in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (3-5), who also received singles off the bats of sophomore Zacary Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Michael Lenane (Dorchester, Mass.) on the day.  Sophomore Tyler Smith (Bellingham, Mass.) allowed just three hits and fanned one over the first 4 2/3 innings in suffering the setback on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of strikeouts each from junior Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, N.J.) and freshman Kyle Kennedy (Woodbury, Conn.)

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Johnson & Wales in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Tufts hosts Bates in the opener of a three-game New England Small College Athletic Conference weekend set on Friday afternoon at Huskins Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.
