GAME #2 FINAL:                    MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 8, LASELL 0

WALTHAM, Mass. --  Sophomore Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in six runs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a sweep of a non-league college baseball doubleheader from Lasell on Sunday afternoon by scores of 5-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap in games played at Brandeis’s Stein Diamond.

Rosano got the visiting Buccaneers (9-16) on the board in their first at-bat of the opener with an RBI double, and he added a run-scoring single in the fifth to extend that lead to 2-0.  The host Lasers (12-21) sliced their deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on freshman Wes Hurty’s (Windsor, Conn.) RBI single, but Massachusetts Maritime iced its first game triumph with a three-run seventh inning rally that included Rosano’s RBI single as well as runs from senior Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Brendan O’Kane (Pocasset, Mass.) on double-steal attempts.  Rosano and junior Bob Lee (Braintree, Mass.) combined for five of the visitors’ eight hits in the lid-lifter victory, as the Buccaneers also received singles from Genereux, O’Kane and junior Matt Pelletier (Bradford, Mass.).  Sophomore Tyler Smith (Bellingham, Mass.) earned his third win in four decisions on the spring for Massachusetts Maritime, as he allowed three hits and fanned three over the first five frames, while junior Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, N.J.) earned his first save of the season with two scoreless innings in relief.  Junior Bobby Ellard (Medfield, Mass.) collected two of Lasell’s five hits in the opener, as sophomore Kevin Post (Cromwell, Conn.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Lasers, allowing five hits and a pair of runs while fanning three in falling to 0-4.

Rosano gave the Buccaneers the only run they would need in the nightcap with a first inning groundout, and Massachusetts Maritime extended that margin to 3-0 in the fourth on an error and a wild pitch.  The visitors broke things open with a five-run sixth inning rally that featured two-run singles off the bats of Lee and Rosano as well an RBI groundout by Pelletier.  Lee and Genereux each had two hits as part of a 10-hit second game attack for the Buccaneers, who also received a double from freshman Matt King (Scituate, Mass.) and singles from O’Kane, senior Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.), junior Ben Maher (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Drew Girouard (Sagamore Beach, Mass.).  After earning the save in the opener, Sanchez earned his first victory of the season with four scoreless frames in the nightcap that included three strikeouts, while freshman Kyle Kennedy (Woodbury, Conn.) allowed a hit and fanned a pair over the final three innings to earn his third save of the spring for Massachusetts Maritime.  Ellard, senior Jacob Salkovitz (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Dustin Brown (Falmouth, Mass.) rapped out singles in the nightcap setback for Lasell, as senior Mike Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Lasers in allowing the first inning run.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 2:00 p.m., while today’s twinbill concluded regular season action for Lasell.
