Pierce Earns Third MASCAC Football Rookie Of The Week Honor
Massachusetts Maritime freshman running back Kenny Pierce was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Rookie of the Week for the third time this season on Saturday evening for his performance in the Buccaneers’ 27-7 victory at Plymouth State.
A native of Beverly, Mass. and a graduate of Beverly High School, Pierce rushed for 149 yards on just 19 carries (averaging 7.8 yards per attempt) and scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of two and 14 yards in the triumph, as he amassed 164 all-purpose yards on the day. On the season, Pierce leads Massachusetts Maritime with 496 net rushing yards on 59 carries (8.4 yards per attempt), and his five touchdowns to date also paces the Buccaneers in individual scoring.
Pierce previously earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolades on September 27th following a 96-yard rushing effort against Worcester State, and he was named once again on October 25th after a career-high 186 yard performance that included a pair of visits to the end zone in a 46-41 victory at UMass Dartmouth.
Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2014 schedule on Saturday afternoon by renewing rivalries with Bridgewater State in the 36th Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented By Ocean Spray that kicks off at Noon EST at Swenson Field in Bridgewater, Mass.
