Andrade, Bennett Earn Spots On 2014 MASCAC Football All-Conference Team
Massachusetts Maritime seniors Victor Andrade and E.J. Bennett earned spots on the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football all-conference squads that were announced by the league office earlier today for their performances during the recently completed campaign.
Andrade, a native of Yarmouth Port, Mass. and a graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School, earned first team all-MASCAC honors at outside linebacker, as he led the Buccaneers with 85 total tackles (64 solo), including a team-leading 16 for losses of 49 yards. Andrade was the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week on September 20th after recording 10 total tackles and forcing a fumble in the second overtime of a 26-20 Admiral’s Cup victory over rival Maine Maritime, and during the year he recorded a pair of forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four pass break-ups.
Bennett, a native of East Wareham, Mass. and a graduate of Wareham High School, was tabbed to the second team all-MASCAC squad at wide receiver, earning all-conference honors for a third straight season. Bennett hauled in 59 receptions for 810 yards and five touchdowns during the 2014 campaign, as he set the school career records for receiving yards (2,568) and receptions (182) and will graduate as the Academy’s single-game, season and career leader in both receptions and yards. Bennett closed out his career by earning Lee Harrington Most Valuable Player honors with 11 catches for 239 yards and a pair of scores, including a career-best 93-yard touchdown reception, in last Saturday’s 31-21 victory over Bridgewater State in the 36th Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented By Ocean Spray.
Additionally, senior quarterback John Trudel was named to the inaugural MASCAC Sportsmanship Team, which the conference is selecting in each sport during the academic year that honors student-athletes who are embodying good sportsmanship on and off the field. A native of Niantic, Conn. and a graduate of Ledyard High School, Trudel threw for 2,261 yards and 18 touchdowns during the season while also visiting the end zone four times on the ground.
Massachusetts Maritime finished the 2014 campaign with four victories under 10th-year Head Coach Jeremy Cameron, who has guided the Buccaneers to 24 wins in the last five seasons. Cameron’s crew is in possession of both the Admiral’s Cup and “The Scoop” with rivalry wins over Maine Maritime and Bridgewater State in the same year for the first time since 1987.
