Massachusetts Maritime freshman running back Kenny Pierce was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Rookie of the Week on Saturday evening for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ Homecoming setback to Worcester State at Clean Harbors Stadium.

A native of Beverly, Mass. and a graduate of Beverly High School, Pierce rushed for 96 yards on six carries and scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 62-yard run early in the fourth quarter against the Lancers.  Over the first three contests of the season, he has rushed for 103 yards on eight carries.

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s squad hits the road next Saturday afternoon when Massachusetts Maritime heads to Fitchburg, Mass. to take on Fitchburg State in a MASCAC clash that kicks off at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
