BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, Mass.) registered 20 kills and 24 digs to lead Worcester State to a sweep of a college volleyball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday afternoon, as the Lancers posted identical 3-0 triumphs that included a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win in the opening contest.

 

Cabral collected nine kills and 15 digs in the visiting Lancers’ (8-14, 1-3 MASCAC) 25-16, 25-8, 25-12 opening match victory, while sophomore Alysia Pearce (Pepperell, Mass.) and freshman Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass.) added seven kills each.  Senior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, Mass.) chipped in with six kills in the opener for Worcester State, which also received 11 digs from senior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, Mass.), 19 set assists from junior Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, Va.) and 10 set assists from freshman Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.).

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) notched seven kills and 10 digs in the opening setback for the host Buccaneers (4-17, 0-4 MASCAC), who also received four kills from freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.).  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) recorded 14 set assists and six digs in the conference setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received 15 digs and a pair of service aces from junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) to go with a pair of kills from junior Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.).

 

Cabral collected 11 kills and six digs in the Lancers’ 25-8, 25-9, 25-15 non-league nightcap triumph, while sophomore Quinn Donovan (Marion, Mass.) added four kills for the visitors.  Leduc chipped in with 11 digs and four service aces for Worcester State, which also received 13 set assists and three kills from Townsend as well as 11 set assists and six digs from Nolan.  Klangos collected seven kills in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, who also received three kills and nine digs from junior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Ethier notched 12 set assists and four digs in the second match setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three kills from senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) and five digs from O’Connor.

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Bridgewater, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Worcester State hosts MCLA in a MASCAC match on Thursday evening at Becker’s Leicester Gymnasium in Leicester, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
