Klangos Registers Eight Kills As Volleyball Drops 3-0 MASCAC Decision At Bridgewater State In Appleman's Homecoming

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Senior Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) notched 11 kills, six digs and four service aces to lead Bridgewater State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-14 in a league match played Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center.

 

Senior Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) added eight kills and a pair of solo blocks in the triumph for the host Bears (10-17, 3-2 MASCAC), who also received four kills from freshman Megan Tamasanis (South Easton, Mass.).  Junior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) and freshman Elizabeth Roberts (Swansea, Mass.) each chipped in with three kills for Bridgewater State, which also received four service aces from freshman Colleen Longley (North Granby, Conn.) and 29 set assists from junior Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.).

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) registered eight kills and three digs in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-18, 0-5 MASCAC), who also received three kills from freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) and a pair of kills from senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.).  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) collected nine set assists and three digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three digs from junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).  The match marked the homecoming for first-year Buccaneer Head Coach Melanie Appleman, who was a four-year standout for Bridgewater State from 2010-13.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Longmeadow, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Bay Path in a non-league match that begins at 11:00 a.m., while Bridgewater State travels to Northampton, Mass. on Friday afternoon to square off with Smith in opening round play of the Hall of Fame Invitational beginning at 5:30 p.m.
