Klangos Matches Career-High With 13 Kills As Volleyball Drops 3-1 Non-League Decision At Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Freshman Jenna Hall (Glens Falls, N.Y.) registered 14 kills and six service aces to lead Pine Manor to a 3-1 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening by game scores of 25-23, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-17 in a match played at Brunelli Court.

 

Senior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) added nine kills and four total blocks in the triumph for the host Gators (1-7), who presented Head Coach Bryan Russell with his first collegiate victory.  Sophomore Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) collected 22 set assists, seven digs, five service aces and four kills for Pine Manor, which also received a combined 31 digs from senior Carline Kirksey-Almond (Lawrence, Mass.) and sophomore Mary Owen (Houston, Tex.) in overcoming five point deficits in each of the first two sets.

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) matched her career-high of 13 kills set last Saturday in the visiting Buccaneers’ (1-4) sweep of the Gators in a tri-match at Curry, while freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) added four kills for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of kills and three digs from junior Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.).  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) recorded 14 set assists for the Buccaneers, who also received 16 digs from junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) to go with six service aces from freshman Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Kings Point, N.Y. on Saturday morning to take on SUNY-Maritime and host Merchant Marine in opening round play of the Sixth Annual Maritime Classic beginning at 10:00 a.m., while Pine Manor hosts Maine Presque-Isle in a non-league match on Sunday afternoon at Brunelli Court beginning at Noon.
