BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Emily Behen (Danvers, Mass.) netted her first career hat trick, while junior Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass.) added a pair of goals and an assist for five points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 5-1 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Wheelock Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Behen staked the host Buccaneers (1-5) to a 1-0 lead just 8:35 into action when she converted feeds from Salem and fellow freshman Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.), and her second marker of the night on Prokscha’s second helper extended that margin to 2-0 in the 21st minute.  Salem then collected a pair of unassisted tallies in just over nine minutes, including a goal off her own corner, to give Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-0 advantage at the break, and after senior Kailah Simon’s (Norwalk, Conn.) unassisted marker in the 68th minute accounted for the lone score of the night for the visiting Wildcats (1-7), Behen completed her hat trick on a breakaway from the right side less than three minutes later to account for the Buccaneers’ final tally.

Freshman Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) picked up her first collegiate win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a five save effort, while junior Alyssa Collier (Trappe, Pa.) made five stops in 63-plus minutes of play in net for Wheelock, which also received three saves in the final 26-plus minutes of action from freshman Madeline Domingo (Newington, Conn.).  The Buccaneers outshot the Wildcats by an 18-8 margin for the evening while also holding a 7-4 edge in corners.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 2:00 p.m., while Wheelock heads to Milton, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Curry in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
