FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and added an assist for five points to lead Framingham State to a 9-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.
Junior Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) added a goal and two assists in the win for the host Rams (7-9-1, 4-3 MASCAC), who jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the break before netting three markers in a 2:38 span midway through the second half to break things open. Senior Kristi Stewart (Lunenburg, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for Framingham State, which also received tallies from seniors Lauren Bova (North Andover, Mass.) and Sarah Carey (Fall River, Mass.) as well as juniors Mary Brinkmann (Bridgewater, Mass.), Cara Murtagh (Quincy, Mass.) and Emily Biegner (Easthampton, Mass.) and a single helper from junior Marissa D’Angelo (Whitman, Mass.).
Freshman Jessica Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up the shutout win in goal for the Rams with four saves, while freshman Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 11 first half stops in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-12, 0-7 MASCAC), who also received six saves from senior Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) in the final 45 minutes of action. Framingham State outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 44-7 margin while holding a 4-2 edge in corners for the contest.
Today’s match concluded Massachusetts Maritime’s 2012 season, while Framingham State has clinched the fourth seed in next week’s Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and will host fifth-seeded Salem State in a quarterfinal round match on Tuesday afternoon at Maple Street Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
