FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Four different individuals netted goals to back a four-save effort from junior goalkeeper Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass.) as Fitchburg State notched a 4-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.
Freshman Nicole Perez (Jamestown, R.I.) gave the host Falcons (2-9, 1-2 MASCAC) the only tally they would need in the 35th minute of play after converting a feed from fellow freshman Jacqueline Walker (Derry, N.H.), and unassisted markers by sophomore Mikaela Foley (Jefferson, Mass.) and junior Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) in an eight-plus minute span midway through the second half extended that margin to 3-0. Sophomore Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, Mass.) closed out the scoring with just under six minutes to play, as she converted a pass from fellow sophomore Devin Donnelly (Charlton, Mass.) to account for the final.
Kirouac picked up the win with her four stops in 72-plus minutes of action for Fitchburg State, while freshman Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 13 saves in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-6, 0-3 MASCAC) as the Falcons outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 33-6 margin while holding a 6-3 edge in corners for the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Coast Guard in a non-league outing on Wednesday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State will be idle until next Saturday, October 6th when the Falcons travel to North Adams, Mass. to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that begins at 1:00 p.m.
