Sailing Squads Post Solid Performances At Roger Williams, Salve Regina Southern Series Regattas Over Weekend

The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team posted a pair of solid performances in difficult conditions over the weekend, as the Buccaneers placed third in the Roger Williams Regatta and saw a quartet of freshman place eighth against a field of more experienced competitors at the Southern Series 2 Regatta at Salve Regina.

Junior Devin Tetzlaff (Forestdale, Mass.), sophomores Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.), Patrick Morrissey (Quincy, Mass.), Bradley Shepherd (Winter Park, Fla.) and Jason Pollock (Cataumet, Mass.), along with freshman Brooke Johnson (Hingham, Mass.), participated in the Roger Williams Regatta on Mount Hope Bay, R.I.  The host Hawks took top honors in the event, with McGill and Massachusetts Maritime following in second and third places in the overall competition for the weekend.

Freshmen Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.), Leo Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.), Nathaniel Olsen (East Dennis, Mass.) and Andrew Labbe (Warwick, R.I.) represented the Buccaneers in the Southern Series 2, which took place in Newport, R.I.  Massachusetts Maritime was the only squad in the 11-team field to have an all-freshman crew, as Vermont took top honors in the competition, with Yale and Brown finishing second and third, respectively.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action on Saturday, April 10th, with the Buccaneers hosting the 25th Admiral Alymer’s Trophy while also competing at the 30th New England Dinghy Championships at Bowdoin.
