Brady Sets Pace Again In Competitive Field As Men's Cross Country Places 26th At Westfield State James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams recorded solid performances on the course where both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and NCAA New England Regionals will be held later this fall, as the Buccaneer men finished 26th of 40 squads and the Buccaneer women placed 36th of 43 teams competing at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park.

Sophomore Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) led the way for a fifth straight week on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as he finished 102nd individually in a field of 430 competitors with a time of 28:35.90 over the 8K course.  Freshman Anthony DeTommaso (Weymouth, Mass.) was next in 187th place with a time of 29:58.32, while the tandem of sophomore Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) and junior Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed 232nd and 233rd, respectively, with times of 30:36.56 and 30:37.43.  Senior Evan Balderelli (Brimfield, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring in 258th place with a time of 31:08.68, as Middlebury took top honors in the event with a score of 23 points, while Amherst (111) and Connecticut College (140) were in the respective runner-up and third place spots.

On the women’s side, sophomore Kelci Sullivan (Hanson, Mass.) set the pace for Massachusetts Maritime with a career-best finish of 191st place among 453 entrants in the event, as she covered the 6K layout in a time of 26:29.60.  Junior Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) was next in 294th place with a time of 28:42.18, while junior Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) recorded a 308th place finish with a time of 28:59.89.  Senior Corinne Prado (Raynham, Mass.) and freshman Siobhan O’Malley (Marshfield, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective times of 31:49.63 and 32:25.83 to finish 379th and 391st place.  Middlebury also took top team honors in the women’s competition with a score of 28 points, while Amherst (64) and Wellesley (158) followed in the runner-up and third place positions.

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s squad travels to Springfield, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete at the Western New England Golden Bear Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m., while the Buccaneer women’s squad will be idle until Saturday, October 27th when Massachusetts Maritime returns to Stanley Park to compete in the 2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference/New England Alliance Championships to be hosted by Westfield State beginning at Noon.
