BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Emerson placed all five of its scorers in the top 13 to nip SUNY-Maritime by one point for top team honors in capturing the title at the 2012 Massachusetts Maritime Lt. Travis J. Fuller Men’s Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal.

Senior Kyle Oppenheimer (Kingston, N.H.) posted a runner-up individual finish time of 28:40 over the five mile layout to lead the way for the Lions, while senior Chris Colon (Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Kevin Dempsey recorded fifth and ninth place individual times of 29:51 and 30:50 for the winners.  Sophomore Nik Rodewald (Nashville, Tenn.) and junior Brendan Stackhouse (Wolfeboro, N.H.) rounded out Emerson’s scoring in 12th and 13th place, respectively, with times of 30:56 and 31:05, as the Lions recorded a team score of 41 points in edging both SUNY-Maritime (42 points) and third place Massachusetts Maritime (57 points) in the event.

Freshman Cameron Coneys (Centerport, N.Y.) paced the runner-up Privateers by taking top individual honors in the competition with a time of 28:04, while senior Gabriel Rosa (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and sophomore Dillon Otten (Fairfield, Conn.) followed in third and fourth place, respectively, with times of 29:37 and 29:48.

Sophomore Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) was the top individual performer for the host Buccaneers with a seventh place time of 30:25, while freshman Anthony DeTommaso (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) placed eighth and 10th, respectively, with times of 30:46 and 30:53.  Junior Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Gregory LaBella (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring in 14th and 18th place, respectively, with times of 31:38 and 32:30.

Rivier junior Alec Davis (Amherst, N.H.) rounded out the top 10 individual performers in the event, as he finished sixth with a time of 29:55.  Framingham State placed fourth in the final team standings with a score of 136 points, while Newbury (154) and Rivier (167) followed in fifth and sixth place.  Mount Ida (176) and Eastern Nazarene (190) rounded out the team scoring in seventh and eighth place, while Suffolk did not have a team score for the competition.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Buddy Harris Invitational that begins at 11:15 a.m.
